Public presentation of the Centre for Excellence in Informatics and Information and Communication Technologies, 16 October 2018

On October 16, 2018, the public presentation of the project BG05M2OP001-1.001-0003 “Center for Excellence in Informatics and Information and Communication Technologies” was held in “Marin Drinov” Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (“15 November” № 1) ( PPP in Informatics and ICT).
The event was preceded by a press conference in the Acad. Ivan Evstratiev Geshov”.

The project is funded under the Operational Program “Science and Education for Smart Growth”. The total amount of the grant amounts to BGN 29 355 861.12, of which BGN 24 952 481.95 (85%) are provided by the European Regional Development Fund and BGN 4 403 379.17 (15%) are national co-financing. Over 75% of the project’s cost is to build a scientific infrastructure.

DSP in Informatics and ICT is built by a consortium comprising:

Institute of Information and Communication Technologies – BAS (leading organization);
Institute of Mathematics and Informatics – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences;
Institute of Mechanics – BAS;
National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography – BAS;
Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”;
Medical University of Sofia;
Library Studies and Information Technologies university.

Associated academic partners include the Institute of Statistics and Mathematical Methods in Economics – TU Vienna (Austria) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics in Kaiserslautern (Germany). Six high-tech Bulgarian companies are associated industrial partners.

The specific objectives of the project:

a) Development of modern electronic infrastructure: computer systems, data storage and services resources and access for researchers in Bulgaria;

b) Integrating the different layers of e-Infrastructure with standardized and community-specific services to create a virtual research environment;

c) Stimulating the building of high scientific capacity in Bulgaria and promoting interdisciplinary approaches;

(d) Providing functions enabling data management for scientific communities;

e) Providing support and training programs for consumers in Bulgaria;

f) Creating the conditions for conducting research in accordance with the best world standards.
