Workshop “Two Years Avitohol: Advanced HPC applications”, 29-31 October 2017, Panagyurishte, Bulgaria

The workshop “Two Years AVITHOOL: Advanced HPC Applications” was held in Panagyurishte from29 October to 31 October 2017. The goal of this event was to present the recent scientific results obtained by the using multifunctional HPC system – Avitohol, which operates in the Advanced Computing and Data Centre at IICT-BAS. The workshop was opened by the director of the Institute for Information and Communication Technologies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Corr. Mem. DSc. Svetozar Margenov. Greetings to the participants on behalf of the Presidency of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences were presented by Corr. Mem. DSc. Kostadin Ganev, Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Assoc. Prof. E. Atanasov presented the opportunities of AVITHOHOL supercomputing system, the organization of the work, the services and tools provided to the Bulgarian scientists as well as the prospects for development. AVITOTHOL system is the most powerful high-performance supercomputer in the region of Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean associated with European and regional computing infrastructure. The workshop program included 27 talks from Bulgarian and foreign scientists presenting new scientific results in the fields of molecular dynamics, bioinformatics, climatology, environmental protection, cultural heritage, etc. Selected papers are prepared for publication.
